More Than Friendship

A lot of people think that being in New Zealand makes me experience something magnificent everyday. But that's not the truth. Lately I've been having a normal and standard life. I wake up in the morning, make myself some breakfast, go to work, come back, make lunch, have a nap, go to work, come back, eat, watch a movie and go to bed. I pay my own rent, have my own room, buy my own veggies walk myself to work. The only thing that is different is the moment I walk out of my front door, I breath in the fresh air of the Fiordland, watch the mountains wake up at the end of the street and remind myself that I need to speak English again. I'm really happy I decided to stay longer. I could've gone back home in april, and just work in crappy Aarschot... but I decided that also in terms of work opportunities, staying here will give me some beautiful experiences.

Although I'm living this standerd life, I'm not doing this alone. As I mentioned before, I'm living together with Jake, Madeline and Max. We used to live with another french couple and a dutch girl, but their journey continued out of Te Anau. Together we are the perfect example of 'double dates'. We all connect so well and 'coming home' doesn't refer to the house anymore. But what I like most about the whole situation is that I'm trying to bring my traditions and values of the word 'family' into the place. I love cooking meals together, playing some games... Basically taking the time to all have a beer and just talk about our lives and journeys. That's why we Introduced Taco nights and started the Harry Potter marathon. It's either Maddie and Jake or me and Max who prepares the whole meal and try to be creative coming up with a different desert every time. We all sit down on the ground, at the little wooden plank with storage boxes underneath that we call our 'table', and put together our delicious Taco's. And this, more than anything, reminds me of home. I know everything sounds like it's going perfect in the house, still there is just one problem... DISHES. We all think that we did our own, but for some magical reason there still seem to appear dishes that belong to no one. There is a little theory behind it tho. A couple of days ago we discovered a mouse in the house! A common problem here in Te Anau... And let's say it was probably the mouse cooking and not washing the dishes.

Maddie and I looked each other in the eye one day and realised that we wanted/needed to work out. So we tried to motivate each other and did a 30 minute workout after work. I would say 'everyday' but that wasn't the case. Well, I guess we tried :) It is nice to have a good 'girly' friend. Someone to talk to, to sport with, to keep me from buying chocolate or to watch drama shows with. But what I liked the most was surprising the boys ons easter. We bought tons of easter eggs and hid them all over the place. When we told them they had to go on a treasure hunt, I could see the childish sparkles in their eyes. Both of them got crazy, ran outside and tried to collect as many as they could. They absolutely loved it, being a little kid again. But does that make me the mom now? Any way. more then friends could ever be.
